## About Crete

Crete is the largest of the Greek islands, with a long coast, mountains and a history that reaches back to the Minoan civilisation. The Palace of Knossos is near Heraklion. Elafonissi, in the south-west, is known for its pink-tinged sand, and tavernas along the coast serve Cretan cooking.
